In short
- The only official GeM login is on gem.gov.in. Its Login button opens a form on sso.gem.gov.in, part of the same site. Logging in and registering are free.
- You log in with your GeM user ID, not your email. Type the user ID (it is case sensitive) and the captcha, then your password on the next screen. Buyers also enter an OTP.
- A GeM password must be 8 to 20 characters, with a capital letter, a small letter, a number and a special character.
- Forgot your password? Reset it through an email link or an OTP. Forgot your user ID? Use Know Your User ID with your registered mobile number.
- Locked out after wrong passwords? Use Unlock User ID. A seller ID not used for more than 3 months can be disabled: send your user ID and PAN to the GeM helpdesk.
GeM login is the door to everything you do on the Government e-Marketplace: listing products, bidding, accepting orders and getting paid. This guide shows the official way to log in as a seller or a buyer, how to get back a lost password or user ID, and how to fix the problems people run into most. Every step comes from GeM's own FAQs, training guides and terms.
The official GeM portal login address
GeM has one address: gem.gov.in. Type it yourself instead of clicking an ad or a link someone sends you. When you click Login on the home page, the login form opens on sso.gem.gov.in, which belongs to the same government site.
You will also see these parts of GeM:
| Address | What it is |
|---|---|
| bidplus.gem.gov.in | Open bids and bid results; anyone can browse them without logging in |
| mkp.gem.gov.in | The marketplace and the sign-up forms for buyers and sellers |
| forwardauction.gem.gov.in | Auctions of government scrap and surplus, with their own "FA Buyer" registration and login |
GeM seller login, step by step
Sellers and service providers log in the same way, whether you are the primary user or a secondary user.
- Open gem.gov.in and click Login.
- Enter your GeM User Id exactly as you created it. Capital and small letters matter.
- Type the captcha characters shown in the box. Click the refresh icon if you can't read them.
- Click Submit. The password box appears only after GeM accepts your user ID and captcha.
- Enter your password and submit. You land on your seller home page.
Your GeM Seller ID is shown at the top left of the page. GeM does not issue a separate registration number.
Not registered yet? Click Sign Up → Seller/Service Provider instead. The documents and steps are in our GeM registration guide.
GeM buyer login, step by step
Government buyers use the same login page, with an extra check or two.
- Open gem.gov.in, click Login, enter your user ID and the captcha, and submit.
- Enter the password. GeM's FAQ says that buyers whose GeM ID is linked to an NIC or other government-registered email ID enter the password of that email account here. The email address is shown partly hidden.
- Generate the OTP and enter it. GeM's buyer dashboard guide (updated January 2026) shows this step after the password.
- Open My Dashboard from the home page to see your demands, product and service orders, shipments and bills.
A buyer organisation's primary user (HOD) can't place orders. Buying is done by the secondary users the HOD creates.
GeM login ID: user ID or email?
You always log in with your user ID, never with your email or mobile number. Some rules about it:
- It can't be changed or deleted once created. GeM advises buyers to base it on a designation or department, not on a person's name.
- One email ID gives one seller account. The same mobile number can be used on different seller accounts.
- A trust, society or autonomous body that registers as both a seller and a buyer needs a different user ID for each.
- If you see "Something went wrong" while creating a user ID, try a different one, and raise a support ticket if it continues.
- Changing the registered email: the primary seller goes to My Account → Account Settings → Change Email, and GeM sends an OTP to the current email. Secondary sellers can't change their email. A primary buyer can edit the email, mobile number, designation and password, but not the name.
GeM password and OTP rules
- Password: 8 to 20 characters, with at least one capital letter, one small letter, one number and one special character. GeM's FAQ gives "Gem@2018" as an example of the pattern; never use the example itself.
- Registration OTPs: if you verify with Aadhaar, the OTP goes to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. If you verify with your personal PAN, you can give any mobile number. Your email is verified with a separate OTP.
- Your mobile number matters. GeM's terms say it uses the registered mobile for user authentication and for OTPs that validate transactions, so keep that number active and with you.
- Signing bids and contracts: GeM accepts an OTP, e-sign or a digital signature (DSC), but says OTP is supported "for a limited time" and will be withdrawn. Get e-sign or a Class 3 DSC before then.
Primary and secondary users
| Seller | Buyer | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary user | Owner, proprietor, partner, director or other authorised person; GeM asks for the authorised signatory of the firm's ITR | The HOD: an officer of Deputy Secretary level or equivalent, or the head of a unit or branch office, approved by a verifying authority |
| Secondary users | Up to 50 active users, with roles for bids and RAs, catalogue, order fulfilment and push button procurement | Buyer, consignee, paying authority, indentor and technical evaluator |
| Who creates the secondary user's ID | The secondary user, after an OTP check on PAN or Aadhaar | The primary user; the secondary user only sets the password |
- A secondary user activates the account from the invitation link that reaches their email when the primary user adds them.
- A primary seller can do everything without secondary users. Separate logins for staff simply mean nobody needs your password.
- A seller can't hand a secondary user's account to someone else. Deactivate it and create a new user with the same roles.
- When a buyer's primary user retires or is transferred, they click Change Email or Deactivate Account under My Profile and enter the new officer's email. The new primary user gets an activation link and keeps the same user ID.
Forgot GeM password
GeM's seller FAQ gives two ways to reset it. Both start from the Login page.
By email link
- Click Forgot your GeM password?
- Enter your user ID and the captcha, and submit.
- Open the reset link GeM sends to your registered email ID, enter a new password twice and submit.
By OTP
- Click Reset GeM Password.
- Enter your user ID and the captcha, and submit.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and email ID, enter a new password twice and submit.
The new password must follow the 8 to 20 character rule above.
Forgot GeM user ID
- On gem.gov.in, open Need Help? → Raise a Ticket, then click Know Your User ID.
- Enter your registered mobile number and click Send OTP.
- Enter the OTP. GeM shows the user ID, or IDs, linked to that number.
If that doesn't work, contact the GeM helpdesk with your personal PAN and your company's PAN, as GeM's FAQ asks.
GeM account locked, disabled or deactivated
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Locked after wrong passwords | Too many incorrect password attempts | Raise a Ticket → Unlock User ID: enter your user ID and verify by OTP |
| Seller login ID disabled | Account not used for more than 3 months | Send your user ID and PAN to the GeM helpdesk |
| Secondary user shown as disabled | Your primary user deactivated you | Ask the primary user to activate you again |
| New buyer HOD sees "User ID is disabled" | The verifying authority rejected the request or clicked the deactivation link | Close the account and apply afresh with a new request |
| Seller account suspended after winning an order | GeM's transaction charge was not paid on time | Pay the pending charge; the account resumes after payment |
Unlock User ID works only when the lock came from wrong passwords. For anything else, contact the helpdesk.
Common GeM login problems and fixes
- Invalid user ID or password. GeM lists this as the top reason logins fail. Check capital letters in the user ID, and make sure you are not typing your email address instead.
- Captcha rejected. Type it again carefully, or refresh it for a new one.
- The page keeps failing. Clear your browser cache, or open the site in an incognito or private window. This is GeM's own advice.
- OTP not received during registration. The mobile number must be the one linked to your Aadhaar. If your details are right, GeM's FAQ says the resend option opens after 10 minutes.
- No OTP box, or a blank screen, while signing a bid. The browser is often blocking pop-ups: allow pop-ups for gem.gov.in. If the problem is at GeM's end or with your network, try again later.
- Sent back to the login page while taking part in a bid. GeM advises trying again after 30 to 40 minutes, then raising a support ticket if it continues.
- Lost access to the registered email. If you can still log in, the primary seller can change it under Account Settings. If you can't, call the helpdesk with your personal and company PAN ready.
GeM helpdesk: toll-free 1800-419-3436 or 1800-102-3436, or 14550, from 9 am to 10 pm, Monday to Saturday. Email helpdesk-gem@gov.in, or raise a ticket at gem.gov.in/gemtickets.
Staying safe: fake GeM sites and calls
- Check the address bar. The real login page is on sso.gem.gov.in, reached from gem.gov.in. A website with "GeM" in its name that is not on gem.gov.in is not GeM.
- Registration is free. GeM's FAQ says there is no fee or charge to register. A "GeM registration fee" or "login fee" is a private consultant's charge.
- Ignore calls that promise orders. GeM's home page warns about calls asking for money in return for orders on GeM, such as an offer to make you L1. Ignore such calls and report them.
- Give staff their own logins. Create secondary users with only the roles they need, and deactivate them when they leave.
What to do after you log in
The seller home page has menus for Catalogue (products and services), Bids, Orders, Market and Dashboard. My Account, in the menu under your name, opens your profile.
- Complete your profile: business details, ITR, Udyam if you are a micro or small enterprise, and a bank account. Payments go to the account you mark as primary once PFMS verifies it.
- List what you sell under Catalogue. You can take part in a bid only if you have an approved offering in its category.
- Check the dashboard every day. It shows orders waiting for your acceptance or delivery, bid notifications from the past week, bids awaiting evaluation, products pending approval, incidents needing your reply and transaction charges due. GeM's terms make you responsible for checking these notifications; email and SMS alerts are only an extra.
- Find and join bids under Bids. Our guide to bidding on GeM covers each step, and how to read a GeM bid document explains the bid PDF.
- Use Reports to download your orders, the bids you did and didn't join, incidents and catalogue details for any date range.
You can also browse live GeM bids on GovtTenderHub without logging in, next to tenders from CPPP and state portals, and get new ones by email every morning.
Common questions
What is my GeM login ID?
It is the user ID you created at the end of registration, not your email or mobile number. If you have forgotten it, use Know Your User ID under Raise a Ticket on gem.gov.in with your registered mobile number.
Why am I not getting the GeM OTP?
At registration, the OTP goes to the mobile linked with your Aadhaar, or to the mobile you gave if you used PAN; GeM's resend option opens after 10 minutes. If the OTP window doesn't appear while signing a bid, allow pop-ups in your browser and try again.
How do I reset my GeM password?
On the Login page, use Forgot your GeM password? to get a reset link by email, or Reset GeM Password to get an OTP on your registered mobile and email. Then set a new password of 8 to 20 characters.
My GeM account is disabled. What should I do?
If it locked after wrong passwords, use Unlock User ID under Raise a Ticket. If a seller account was not used for more than three months, send your user ID and PAN to helpdesk-gem@gov.in. A disabled secondary user should ask the primary user to reactivate the account.
Can two people share one GeM login?
They shouldn't. The holder of a user ID is responsible for everything done with it. The primary user can create separate secondary users, up to 50 for a seller, each with only the roles they need.
Is the GeM login different for sellers and buyers?
Both use the same Login page: user ID and captcha first, then the password. Buyers then confirm with an OTP, and buyers whose ID is linked to an NIC or government email enter that email account's password.
